The unique, Olivier Award-winning production adapted from E. Nesbit’s novel, The Railway Children, was performed in a purpose built theatre at King’s Cross from 2014 – 2017. It featured a stunning, vintage, steam locomotive and real train track.

Directed by Damian Cruden, the performance originally enjoyed two sell-out seasons in 2008 and 2009 at the National Railway Museum in York, before transferring to two disused platforms at Waterloo International railway station and subsequently to King’s Cross.

The play, set at the height of WWII, tells the story of three children who move from London to a rural cottage with their mother, where they befriend a Railway porter. A tale of adventure, family and friendship emerges while the absence of their father unravels a fascinating mystery.

Across it’s multiple international runs over the year, the production raised more than half a million pounds for the Railway Children charity for street children.
