The poignant, fairy-tale musical Water Babies ran from 24th April- 17th May 2014 at the Curve Theatre, Leicester.
It was directed by Ed Curtis, with music by Chris Egan and book and lyrics by Ed Curtis and Guy Jones. Two thirds of the show is set underwater, using a variety of approaches to create the world in which the story was told. This involved a number of traditional theatrical techniques alongside projection and real water effects
The cast included Tom Lister, Louise Dearman, Thomas Milner and Lauren Samuels. Richard E Grant appeared as the Kraken in a never before seen 3D hologram effect, allowing his recorded sequence to interact with actors on stage.
The musical, based on the popular Charles Kingsley fable, tells the story of Tom, a boy framed for a crime, who jumps into a waterfall and begins his adventure to get back to land, encountering unexpected characters and sidekicks. The traditional Victorian fable took on a new lease of life in this on stage production enhanced by the innovative projection work from Jack Henry James.
